Likes and dislikes of 23Things

There is more than one thing I have enjoyed doing with the 23Things. In no particular order I have enjoyed: Del.icio.us, pageflakes (from the Web 2.0 awards), LibraryThing, YouTube, the image generator and finding about Wikis and podcasts. Most of all I enjoyed keeping the "diary" of what I had completed in my blog. I also enjoyed learning and finding out about the social technologies. I will miss 23Things when it is finished.
I did not like the dead links for things that looked really interesting. Some of the content for the 23Things needs to be updated. I also got frustrated trying to access the Sandbox- maybe next time.
As it is the end of the journey (or just the beginning) I thought I would leave you with pictures of Third Creek (which runs through Magill campus) after the rain over the last few days.

What I liked about 23 Things

My favourite things

I've really enjoyed 23 things. Some weeks I had my doubts about the activities, and sometimes it was a bit of a struggle to get started, but looking back I can honestly say that I've had a great time doing this. I highly recommend it.

My least favourite activity? There weren't any I really disliked, but I suppose the activities I enjoyed the least were the ones that I found the most frustrating, such as Technorati and the PLCMC sandbox. I tried and I tried and I tried, but for all my "I think I can"-ing in the end I found out I actually couldn't. This was the only problem I found with 23 things - the programme was written a couple of years ago and some of the links just don't work anymore. Having said that, playing around trying to make them work, even if I failed in the end, was probably a really valuable exercise. It doesn't work this way so how about if I try this? No, ok, how about this? Still no. Hmmmm. Well, what about if I do this? Still no .... and so on and so on. Frustrating - yes. Annoying - yes. A waste of time - no. Lots of valuable learning going on in trying and failing.

My favourite activity - lots of scope here. I really enjoyed exploring YouTube and the Web 2.0 award winners. I had fun with podcasts and flickr, and liked learning about audiobooks, del.icio.us, zoho writer and Library Thing. But my favourite activity was playing around with the image generators and seeing what they could do. I think I hid my preference well though. There are hardly any pictures in my blog.

Eleanor has asked us to write about one thing we have discovered in our 23 things travels that we have really liked, but that wasn't a web 2.0 application or a particular activity for me. It was this - blogging. Sharing what I had found out while I was out playing. Reading everyone else's amazing blogs and looking forward to the next posts to see what everyone else thinks about that topic. Watching the videos, admiring the artwork, enjoying the writing. So thank you all, it's been the best of times :)

Access denied to Sandbox Wiki

I'm denied access to the Learning 2.0 Sandbox wiki and it sounded like such good fun. The instructions via 23 Things indicate that once I've created my account (which I've done) then all I need to do is click edit at the top of the page but I do not see the word edit or a similar link anywhere on the page. :(
Can anyone please help?

Hi
Just wondering how we add a 'tag' to our posts to show the week that we are working on? Is it just the title or is there a special way of adding a tag?

Week 4 RSS & Newsreaders

I have created my account in Bloglines- but I am starting to get really worried about how much junk I am going to get in my inbox and those great offers!!!!!! Could not get into Feedster. Topix, syndic8 and technorati I did not like. For something called really simple syndication I expected a bit more.

Flickr Montager

Has anyone played with Flickr Montager?

Ecosse Alba said...
Morning. I was playing with Flickr Montager yesterday and it looks fantastic, but when you send yourself an email the Montage does not open. What am I doing wrong? Have a try of the Montager yourself.

I've had a play and when I send myself an email, I can't get the Montage to open either. Has anyone played and successfully opened the Montage from the email link? Or did Ecosse Alba break it. I think I know what my money is on... :-)

2 useful things

First useful thing: I found it very difficult trying to keep track of all the usernames, passwords and urls that I used during 23 Things. In the end I wrote all those details into an email, and let it live in my drafts :-)

Second useful thing:I tagged my posts with Week 3, Flickr, etc. which is really useful for the person quietly keeping an eye on progress. Subtle enough for you?

Hope you guys are enjoying the challenges presented so far. Any comments about the most interesting/difficult thing so far?

I hate posts with nothing but text, so here's an image to brighten things up. An image of the interior of Bennelong Restaurant in the Sydney Opera House

Gorgeous restaurant!

And so it begins...

UniSA Library is about to begin 23 Things in earnest.

No-one should feel that they're trying to work through all the activities by themselves. Each of you are in the same boat - you are all learning something new. Everyone has a different learning style, some of you will find the activities really easy and others will find it more challenging. The main thing to remember is that really there isn't a wrong answer with any of these activities. Everything you look at and experience will add to your knowledge and confidence with these technologies.

This blog has been setup so that you can bounce new discoveries off each other and actually chat about some of the things that you've found. What are you enjoying? What are you hating? What have you seen that you've felt compelled to talk to others about? Once you have all completed the exercises from Week 2 and created your blog, you'll need to register it on Libnet. I'll then add each of you as authors to this blog so that you can post and comment here to your heart's content.
